After World War II and the baby boom that followed, scores of houses were built in the Delaware Valley to accommodate the ever expanding local population. Around the same time bathroom and kitchen fixture manufactures, including Kohler, began introducing more colors into products. You may have noticed this trend as indicated by the pink or green toilet in older bathrooms. While fixtures were being installed in many different colors (maybe too many), through the 1980’s faucets were only available in chrome or brass. A lot has changed since then.

Choosing a faucet finish is important because it can dramatically change the design of your space, but there are so many finishes available today that choosing one can seem overwhelming. Brushed Nickel or Stainless Steel

Brushed Nickel is king of the faucet finishes. Sometimes called stainless steel, this finish matches the trend of stainless steel appliances that has been dominating kitchen design for over the last decade. Many homeowners and designers are drawn to brushed nickel because they match with almost any décor and give a more modern feel than traditional chrome.

Brass & Gold

Brass is back. After a boom in popularity in the 1970’s & 1980’s, brass faucets were set aside for brushed nickel and other finishes. But millennials are fueling the return of this classic look. The newly popular brass finishes are warmer and more muted than their polished and shiny predecessors while style providing an elegant style.

Matte Black

Matte black faucets are a new trend being rolled out by faucet manufacturers in 2018. The flat, muted black finish goes great with the ever popular farmhouse kitchen that features heavily on white and gray, to which matte black is a perfect contrast. Basic colors and tones are a major design trend in both kitchens and bath and matte black fits right in. This finish can look great in either a modern or traditional design, adding to its versatility.

Chrome

While other finishes come and go, chrome has always remained popular. Chrome is the most available finish and often times the most cost effective. It goes great in any traditional kitchen or bathroom and keeps the space light and airy. Chrome faucets look great against a white sink or tile. Many designers and home owners gravitate to chrome for one main reason: safety. Chrome will almost certainly never go out of style.
